Personal Statement

My view of the problems dealt with in therapy begins with a consideration of what we commonly do with unwanted thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, urges, and memories. When faced with distressing thoughts and feelings, avoidance, control, and escape function as the default response for most of us. These strategies initially work well but in the long run they actually make the problem worse.

I help my clients learn an alternative to control and avoidance, a different way of relating to their struggles. I make the discovery of what contributes to a meaningful life for them a central focus of our work together. And along the way, clients develop more flexible responses to problematic thoughts and feelings so that they can do what matters most.

Everyone’s mental health journey is unique, and we’re here to ensure you find the right support for yours.
